My Take - Quill, Paper Weaving

There's something about paper. You can shape it like origami, you can weave it or you can curl it as in quilling.

Really, you don't have to use expensive paper although it does look pretty but newspaper, old book pages and magazine pages unlock your imagination and it can be just as pretty.

About my giant quill.

For the window I used black construction paper and a using a paper cutter cut them in 1 1/2 inch strips. To create the paisley design take the two ends and join them and roll them on a bamboo skewer. For the heart shaped quill I used the same size and just played with different shapes. Giant quill is very easy to work with.

My paper weaving used 1/4 inch strips of white paper with a few red strips for contrast. A few tips. At the bottom of your paper put some painter's tape as a guide so when your cutting your strips so you don't cut all the way through the paper. Use the pointy end of the bamboo skewer to push the weave taunt as you work on your weave widths.

I also tried a few magazine page weaves using 1/2 inch strips. Easy, peasy...
